Message From Mrs Dance
Dear Parents and Carers,
Spring has definitely sprung! It has been lovely to spend lunchtimes outside with the children in warmer, sunnier weather.
This week, my assemblies have focused on our MIRROR value of respect. I talked about how we should never judge someone by what we see and hear, but rather to always be kind and respectful when interacting with each other. I also shared with upper KS2 (Years 5 and 6) the importance of keeping themselves safe when out and about in the community. Making sure that they do not venture into unsafe areas such as building sites.
It has been a musical extravaganza this week! On Monday morning, our iRock bands performed for their parents and an audience of their peers. We listened to children from Year 1 to Year 6 playing the drums, guitar, piano and singing a range of songs from Happy by Pharrell Williams to one of my favourite songs Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes. The bands were BRILLIANT- I cannot wait to hear them perform again!
On Tuesday evening, our fantastic choir led by the amazing Mrs. Weymouth, spent an evening at The Anvil in Basingstoke singing with other local schools as part of the Vocal Ambassador project that we are a part of. The children exemplified our MIRROR values throughout the evening and performed to a large audience. Yesterday, I received the following email from an audience member who watched them perform:
I just wanted to say how impressed we were with your choir’s performance. Other than it being a beautiful song, we were blown away with the children’s use of sign language. We found it very moving - there were tissues involved! Please thank Lin-Manuel Miranda and the children for their amazing singing & signing. I hope they get to share their performance with other audiences.
Thank you to Mrs. Weymouth and the school staff and parents who supported the children, a fabulous achievement.
Finally, as you may be aware there is a lot of media attention at the moment around mobile phone use for young people. One of our Governors, Steve Anning, recently went to a meeting around this topic and wanted to share the following link with you all, in case you wanted to join this growing movement around keeping children safe within social media. Sign the Hampshire Parent Pact
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
