Meet Ralph, our School Dog

Who is Ralph?

Ralph is part of the Nurture team here in Vigo. He lives with Mrs Parry (his human) and comes to school to support the children and staff with their emotional well-being. Ralph is currently undertaking his therapy dog training, so that he can help even more children in school.

Ralph is a very laid-back pooch, he enjoys lying down, being stroked and, of course, a delicious treat! Whilst at school, his safe space is either in The Meadow or Mrs Dance's office.

To ensure that Ralph can carry out his important role effectively, he is not here every day, but comes two to three days per week, so that he is ready and available whenever he is needed.

Who is helping Ralph to become the best therapy dog ever?

Mrs Parry (Ralph's human), Miss Phillips, Mrs Matthews and Mrs Mallon (Nurture team) and Mrs Dance (HT) are working with the Canine Assisted Learning (CAL) team to develop Ralph's therapy skills. He is currently learning how to choose objects and roll dice! To find out more about the Canine Assisted Learning team, please click here.

How do I approach Ralph?

It is important that all humans approach Ralph in a polite and respectful way. We follow the PAWS approach. This approach ensures that Ralph is ready and welcoming of human interaction as part of his therapy role.
