Meet Our Governors

Marty Johnson, Chair

I have lived near Andover for many years and have three grown up children. I worked at Andover College as both a Lecturer and as an LSA where I supported students helping them to achieve their learning goals. I have also worked at a local village Primary school so I have experience working with learners from Year R to A level.

I joined the GB at Vigo in 2015 as a co-opted governor and became Chair of Governors in 2018 when Julie Bray was appointed Head Teacher. The GB were delighted to welcome Rachel Dance to this role last year. It has been an exciting and rewarding experience to be part of the school over the last few years when it has gone from strength to strength. As a Governing Body we are committed to developing and supporting improvements ensuring every child will achieve their learning potential and enjoy their time at Vigo.

Andrew Murray

I was co-opted as a Governor in December 2019 but I have lived in the area close to Whitchurch since 1997.  I am a chartered accountant who has worked within small and medium sized businesses since leaving one of the major accounting practices.  My current role is as group finance director for a small group of travel and leisure companies and my responsibilities include all finance, HR and IT areas.  I am a trustee of a two charities including Fine Cell Work a charity and social enterprise which enables prisoners to build fulfilling and crime-free lives.  I have two grown up children and my knowledge of the education sector is patchy but even at my age I am still willing to learn.  

Leah Tucker

I have lived in Andover all my life and have three children, all of whom attended Vigo. I joined the Governing Board in September 2013.
I have a Diploma in Early Years and have worked with children since leaving college in 2000.  At the present time I am a child minder but before meeting my husband and having my own children, I worked as a nanny.
I have a great understanding of Early Years education and I am also trained to Level Four in Safe Guarding.  I am a Safe Guarding Governor and Early Years Governor. I am also on the Pay and Curriculum committees at Vigo.

Sophie Salvidge

I am a parent governor with a child at Vigo. I grew up in a village not far from Andover, and I now live in Andover. I work as a Commercial Property and Asset Manager. I am hoping my property, health and safety and budgeting knowledge, as well as offering a parental perspective, will be useful to Vigo and the Board of Governors. I am so pleased to be able to be part of Vigo’s future and its ability to offer all the children a safe environment for education and play

Annabel Dunlop

I moved to the Andover area in September 2020.  I have three primary school aged children.  Since having children I have become passionate about education and children's wellbeing.  I am thrilled to have been appointed a governor at Vigo and look forward to contributing to the school's ongoing success. I practised as a solicitor (specialising in Professional Conduct and Regulation) in London for ten years before having children. From 2015 to 2019 I served as a governor at my children's school in London, with a particular interest in teaching & learning and faculty development & welfare. My family were on a posting in Argentina 2019-2021 where I also served as a governor at our children's school.

Serena Blackburn

I live a few miles outside Andover and was keen to become a school governor having had almost 30 years experience in education.  I am a qualified teacher and taught for many years in London primary schools, however, after having my own children I decided to return to work teaching English and Drama on a part-time basis.  Three years ago I retrained at the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Trust and now work as a SEN teacher at schools in Winchester and London.  I am a co-founder of a local charity, Kids on Track Andover and was also a governor at John Hanson School.  I became a co-opted governor in 2020.  

Dr Will Liddell 

I was born and brought up just outside Andover and have worked for many years as a GP in the town, including as a school doctor. I retired in 2018, but I still work part-time in family medicine, while running a farming business. I have a PGCE, but my educational experience is in adult education and particularly the training and supervision of doctors. I regard a good primary school education as a key determinant of long-term health and well-being and therefore of enormous importance.

Frances Bernon

I was a Financial Controller for an engineering company and retired during Lockdown when I volunteered as a Math’s tutor for a charity. I taught Keystage 2 maths to pupils from schools in Liverpool and London on line and really enjoyed the experience, finding it very rewarding. Although I have not worked in education, I am hoping my financial and mathematical background will prove useful to the school.  I have two grownup boys and believe all children deserve the best education possible and I am excited to be part of Vigo school. 

Gold Pravin

I moved to the UK from India in 2019 and have since lived in Andover. I have served across Asia leading Youth and child development programs yielding to UN SDG Goals. I am passionate about child / youth empowerment, agency and advocacy. Currently I work in the FinTech space. I love outdoor adventure activities, and am an avid car and motorbike enthusiast. Passionate about food, cooking and bringing people together through food. I am excited to have been appointed as a co-opted governor. I am eager to use my global exposure, experience and broad cultural curiosity in empowering teachers and children to reach their true potential and being at their best.
